Als angewandte Ethik ist Medienethik sowohl normative Teildisziplin der philosophischen Ethik als auch Anwendungsdisziplin, die auf den Ergebnissen empirischer Forschung der Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaften aufbaut oder auch selbst empirisch forscht (vgl. K\u00f6berer 2014).
